Fiat Chrysler Automobiles swept through the 2018 Texas Truck Rodeo put on by the Texas Auto Writers’ Association (TAWA), taking home 15 of 24 available awards – the most of any automotive manufacturer – including the coveted “Truck of Texas” with the all-new, 2019 Ram 1500 pickup.
That model garnered a further five awards from TAWA, including Full-Size Pickup Truck of Texas, Luxury Pickup Truck of Texas (Longhorn model), Off-Road Pickup Truck of Texas (Rebel), Best Powertrain – for the 48-volt eTorque Mild Hybrid System – and Best New Technology – for its available 12-inch Uconnect Screen. The older, 2018 Ram Power Wagon even picked up an award in the Heavy-Duty Pickup Truck category.
FCA’s rugged Jeep brand pulled in its fair share of TAWA awards, too, with the award for best Mid-Size Luxury SUV going to the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, marking the Grand Cherokee’s seventh straight win in the category, and the 2018 Jeep Wrangler being named best Mid-Size SUV and best Off-Road SUV (Rubicon model). Dodge’s less off-road-oriented 2019 Dodge Durango SRT picked up a win in the Full-Size SUV category.
Even some of Fiat Chrysler’s high-priced premium brans earned awards, with Alfa Romeo taking home CUV of Texas and Luxury CUV, both for the 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, and Maserati garnering SUV of Texas and Full-Suze Luxury SUV with the 2019 Maserati Levante GTS.
Regardless, it’s really the all-new, 2019 Ram 1500 with its six awards that left the biggest impression on the Texas Auto Writers’ Association.
“The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 stole the hearts of our members this year, and has earned our highest honor as the 2019 Truck of Texas,” says TAWA President Michael Marrs. “It’s not only capable, but it is comfortable, and the attention to detail is unlike anything in the truck market. It’s a home run for the Ram brand that scored the Truck of Texas trophy.”
The last time that Ram Trucks won the Truck of Texas award was in 2013, with the 2014 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel.
