The Ram Power Wagon – FCA’s tough, capable off-road truck based on the Ram Heavy Duty – has just gotten more appealing with the introduction of the new, limited-edition “Mojave Sand” appearance package. The $795 package comprises a new Mojave Sand exterior color borrowed from the Ram Rebel, and a set of all-black wheels, both of which lend the 2018 Ram Power Wagon a bold, adventure-ready new look. Inside, an all-black interior and Ram’s Heavy Duty Luxury Group come standard. The Luxury Group includes LED bed lighting, power heated/folding wing mirrors, and a universal garage door remote.
“The Ram Power Wagon is the most off-road-capable production pickup in the market today and offering the new Mojave Sand special-edition will appeal to enthusiasts looking for a truck that stands above the crowd,” says FCA North America Head of Ram Trucks Brand Jim Morrison. “Power Wagon is extraordinarily competent off-road and provides both the towing and payload required in a heavy-duty truck.”
That’s because, where Ford and General Motors base their bona fide off-road pickups off of light-duty trucks (the full-size Ford F-150 and midsize Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon, respectively), the Ram Power Wagon is based on the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty 4×4 Crew Cab. As such, power comes from a big, honking 6.4L Hemi V8 capable of producing up to 410 horsepower, and the truck is engineered to withstand the harsh conditions of a life spent towing, hauling, an otherwise supporting demanding vocational work.
To give the Ram Power Wagon its off-road prowess, Fiat Chrysler fitted the truck with a unique suspension boasting 14.3 inches of ground clearance, locking differentials in the front and rear, a disconnecting front sway bar that allows for extra suspension articulation, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, and a 12,000-pound winch.
The 2018 Ram Power Wagon Mojave Sand Edition will begin arriving in dealerships during the fourth quarter of this year, wearing a base price of $56,525 including destination. Just 1,500 examples will be produced.
