The proceeds should find good use at CCS, which has been named “one of the best design schools in the world” by Businessweek Magazine and one of the top three design schools in the United States, according to LinkedIn. The college offers a specialized transportation design program, in which students study digital modeling, vehicle systems, and visual communication. CCS has a vast network, with alumni working as head designers at companies such as FCA, Ford, and Toyota.
At the prestigious RM Sotheby’s automotive auction in Monterey, California, a LaFerrari with no reserve will be sold to the highest bidder to benefit the world-renown College for Creative Studies in Detroit. The estimated take is anywhere between $3 million to $4 million. The original price of a LaFerrari was $1.4 million.
Curiously, the photos of the LaFerrari were taken at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, and the seller is listed as private, but the car from a “prominent collection.” These clues lead us to believe that the seller is wealthy and philanthropic car collector from Michigan, and sources have tipped us that it’s none other than media mogul Keith Crain.
For those unfamiliar, the LaFerrari features a 6.2-liter V12 engine and a 120 KW electric motor. It also contains 789 bhp on tap from the V12 engine and an additional 161 bhp from the electric motor, total output is rated at 950 bhp. In terms of performance, the 2014 LaFerrari can reach a top speed of 217 mph, reaching 62 mph in roughly three seconds.
The LaFerrari was limited to only 499 units produced for specific individuals who had to be vetted by an interviewing process. However, a 500th model was built and sold to benefit Italian earthquake victims, as was an additional LaFerrari Aperta. This particular LaFerrari has been “exceptionally well preserved” with only 150 miles recorded since delivery. Apparently, Crain never really drove the thing. Uniquely, Crain opted for the Rosso Corsa mirrors and roof, foregoing the more popular black accents, along with some interior options that include a carbon fiber dash accent and red leather stitching and piping.
