While it may not have the 475-horsepower sledgehammer of a 6.4L Hemi V8 found in the high-performance Dodge Durango SRT, the mid-level Durango GT is no lightweight, boasting 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque from FCA’s popular 3.6L Pentastar V6. With an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and available all-wheel drive, the capable three-row utility vehicle can tow a best-in-class 6,200 pounds, according to FCA.
Now, for 2019, the Dodge Durango GT will boast some sporty Durango R/T- and SRT-derived aesthetic features as standard, effectively taking two-thirds of the new “Rallye Appearance Package” announced back in April and installing it on every new GT model at no extra charge. Those two-thirds consist of a pair of LED foglamps and an aggressive performance front fascia; the Rallye pack’s SRT-inspired hood, with its center air inlet duct and its pair of heat extractors, will remain optional into 2019.
Other new options for the 2019 Dodge Durango GT include available cloth seating and a new, 20-inch wheel design, finished in a choice of either Satin Carbon or Brass Monkey. Capri leather-trimmed seats with suede inserts, first- and second-row seat heaters, a heated and leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, and a power liftgate remain available as options, while LED daytime running lamps and a bright-tip dual exhaust continue to come standard. Like the rest of the Durango lineup, the 2019 GT will offer an integrated trailer brake with the optional Trailer Tow Package, as well as Blind-spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path detection.
“The Durango is our three-row Charger of the SUV segment, delivering uncompromised utility, advanced technology, class-leading towing and driving range, confident driving dynamics and aggressive styling,” says FCA North America’s Head of Passenger Cars, Steve Beahm. “Customer demand for utility vehicles in the United States has exploded over the past decade, and with America’s fastest, most powerful and most capable three-row SUVs in our garage and the new updates for the 2019 model year, Dodge Durango continues to separate itself from the competition with the performance and capability that our customers demand.”
Order banks for the 2019 Dodge Durango are open now, with deliveries set to start this fall.
