John Schneider, who played the role of Beauregard “Bo” Duke in the classic American TV series Dukes of Hazzard (1979-’85), will finally get to jump that show’s iconic “General Lee” 1969 Dodge Charger on his birthday this year – an experience that he never got to have back when Dukes of Hazzard was on the air, as the producers thought it best left up to professional stunt drivers. At “Bo’s Extravaganza” at the John Schneider Studios in Holden, Louisiana this Saturday, April 7th, Schneider will attempt to jump the General over a swamp, with former NASCAR great Carl Edwards filling in for Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane.
Schneider, who now stars in Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots, will bring along a couple of his co-stars from that series – Renee Lawless and Peter Parros – as well as the actor who played his cousin Luke Duke in the Dukes of Hazzard: Tom Wopat. The actors, along with invited members of the press and a crowd of eager Dukes fans, will watch as Carl Edwards chases after John Schneider in a Dodge Charger made up to look like the orange 1969 example used in the series, culminating in a spectacular jump over a Louisiana swamp.
We have to imagine that Edwards will be driving a properly-outfitted Dodge Monaco police car in white, just like Sheriff Rosco drove in the iconic TV series.
