The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio – Alfa’s lightning-quick, 505-horsepower sports sedan – just took home the Texas Automotive Writers Association’s award for “Performance Sedan of Texas” for the second consecutive year, while its crossover-style sibling, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, was named “Performance SUV of Texas”. The awards were decided by a group of 49 TAWA journalists, who drove a selection of 46 vehicles at Eagles Canyon Raceway over the course of two days.
“The Alfa Romeo brand made a strong showing with the all-new 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia during our two days of evaluation,” said TAWA President Mike Marrs. “Both vehicles feature impressive style and craftsmanship and the Quadrifoglio editions were a blast to drive, offering excellent performance and handling on the track.”
Both the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and all-new Stelvio Quadrifoglio benefit from Alfa’s light, lively Giorgio platform and Ferrari-developed, twin-turbo 2.9L V6. The former model is capable of rocketing to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, while the latter can do it even quicker, in 3.6. Both set production vehicle lap records at the Nürburgring Nordschleife after launch, with the Giulia Quadrifoglio rounding the “Green Hell” in just 7 minutes, 32 seconds, and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio doing it in 7:51.7.
(The Giulia QV has since been surpassed by the Jaguar XE SV Project 8.)
“Performance Sedan of Texas” and “Performance SUV of Texas” are far from the only Texas Auto Writers Association accolades earned by the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. At the group’s 2018 Texas Truck Rodeo last October, the Stelvio was named “Crossover of Texas” and “Luxury Crossover of Texas”. Earlier in the year, at the TAWA Texas Auto Roundup, the Giulia QV was named not only “Performance Sedan of Texas”, but “Car of Texas”, as well.
