We’re four days away from the 52nd annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari, and the brand has finally shown us the seven concepts it plans on bringing to the event.
The Jeep 4SPEED is one of the seven, and it’s a lightweight take on the 2018 Wrangler JL. Mopar and Jeep worked to shave weight and highlight the SUV’s new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the process, which is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
And when Jeep means “lightweight,” the brand means it. At the forefront of the SUV’s weight-shedding strategy are a carbon fiber hood, high-clearance carbon fiber fender flares and a carbon fiber rear tub with perforated aluminum panels. The raked windshield and longer door openings give the 4SPEED an even sleeker profile to complement its lightweight engineering.
Thanks to the weight savings, the concept also rides two inches higher than a standard 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL.
To ensure it can tackle conditions meant for Jeeps, the 4SPEED boasts Dana 44 front and rear axles with a 4.10 gear ratio and 18-inch lightweight monoblock wheels wrapped in 35-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires.
The 4SPEED joins the Nacho Jeep, Wagoneer Roadtrip, Sandstorm, B-ute, Jeepster and J-Wagon concepts. The Moab Easter Jeep Safari runs from March 24 to April 1.
