According to a German tuning outfit named “Pogea Racing”, a new Alfa Romeo sportscar is in the works, and it should arrive in early-2020. The car will reportedly be dubbed the “Alfa Romeo 6C”, after a series of road, race, and sports cars produced by the company from the late-1920s to the mid-1950s, each of which was powered by an inline-six engine.
It’s fair to assume that this new Alfa Romeo 6C will also have six cylinders, and rumor has it that the six-pot of choice will be essentially the same twin-turbocharged, 2.9-liter V6 as powers the Giulia Quadrifoglio. An electrified powertrain is a possibility, but as Autocar notes, there’s little chance of it being a pure-electric car as FCA’s Maserati brand is expected to bring out the battery-powered Alfieri the same year.
The new 6C is expected to compete more-or-less with the likes of the Porsche 911, acting as a halo car to draw people to the brand.
Pogea Racing says that the future Alfa Romeo 6C sportscar could make its auto show debut either this year or next, so with any luck, FCA will make the news official sooner rather than later (or not at all). We’ll keep our eyes peeled.
