The all-new, 2019 RAM 1500 light-duty pickup truck won Cars.com‘s “Best in Show” at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, with editors Aaron Bragman, Mike Hanley, Fred Meier, and Brian Wong all agreeing that it was the most impressive of the three new pickups revealed there. The RAM was forced to compete for attention against the likes of the all-new, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and Ford’s new North American Ranger mid-size pickup.
The new RAM 1500 impressed the Cars.com editors with its drastically-improved interior and 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, which gives both the 3.6L Pentastar V6 and 5.7L Hemi V8 a boost in fuel economy and torque. Aaron Bragman said that the interior of the range-topping Limited model “sets the new standard for luxury truck interiors,” thanks to its “embroidered, beautifully trimmed leather seats, massive 12-inch touchscreen, brain-bursting premium audio, and impeccable fit and finish.”
Conversely, the mid-size Ford Ranger is essentially the same as the current-generation T6 model already sold globally since 2011, and the full-size Silverado 1500, while it represents a sizable improvement over the outgoing truck, doesn’t impress to quite the same extent as the RAM.
The all-new RAM 1500 “seems to be working hardest to get and keep new buyers,” writes Fred Meier. The redesigned truck may not have debuted the cleaver split-tailgate design we’d been expecting, but even without it, the RAM 1500 stole the show away from the new Chevy Silverado and Ford Ranger.
The 2019 RAM 1500 will go on sale this quarter. For more info on the brand-new light-duty pickup, click here.
