Pro football player (or soccer player if you live in the US) Sebastien Bassong had his driving privileges suspended for 40 days and was fined £440 plus court fees after speeding in a Maserati at 110 miles per hour.
This isn’t the first soccer player we’ve seen get nailed for speeding, remember when Manchester United’s Dwight Yorke was fined for going 26 miles per hour over the posted limit in his Chevy C7 Corvette Stingray convertible?
Now, Bassong’s offense was much greater than Yorke’s, however, Bassong had a different motive. While Yorke was allegedly keeping with the flow of traffic, Bassong was rushing home to his wife who had just called to say that she was having a lot of pain. Bassong was worried that her recent bout with kidney stones had flared up again.
Ultimately Bassong told the magistrate that he “regrets his actions.”
In light of this event, Bassong has sold his Maserati. Maybe a little extreme of a move for a speeding ticket?
