Waymo, Alphabet Inc.’s self-driving car subsidiary, has an exclusive service partner after it chose AutoNation to service its fleet of autonomous Chrysler Pacifica Hybrids.
The multi-year agreement will provide “strategic capabilities to maximize the self-driving vehicle fleet’s life across the United States,” however, AutoNation will first work with Waymo in Phoenix, Arizona, where a bulk of the company’s self-driving car testing takes place.
Most recently, Waymo began testing its self-driving cars without a human behind the wheel at all. Companies often keep a human being behind the wheel in case the technology fails so the human can retake controls of the car if need be. Waymo aims to start public rides in its self-driving cars in the coming months.
