The folks at Fiat-Chrysler will more than likely be popping champagne corks after Motor Trend named the Alfa Romeo Giulia its 2018 Car of the Year.
All contenders face six criteria: advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value and performance of intended function. For MT judges, the Giulia met all with flying colors. And the accolade isn’t just for the hot Giulia Quadrifoglio; the award trickles to every Giulia variant on sale today, which includes the superb lower trims equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
“Motor Trend’s judges agreed that the Alfa Romeo Giulia is the new ultimate driving machine,” said Ed Loh, Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief. “Alfa Romeo developed a car that is perhaps the finest handling sedan on the market.” If that tagline sounds familiar, it’s because “ultimate driving machine” is a phrase coined for BMW decades ago. We’d say it’s right at home describing the Alfa Romeo Giulia.
