“Our Challenger sales are having an all-time record year-to-date,” said Kuniskis. In addition to record-setting sales performance, the Challenger also outsold both the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang during the first half of 2017.
“It’s selling SRTs and Scat Packs and regular Hellcats,” Kuniskis explained. “We built the Demon to cement the image of what the brand is in peoples’ minds. And this is what we want our attitude to be seen as.”
Moreover, the capabilities of the Dodge Demon help elevate the cache of the entire Challenger lineup itself. That’s the beauty of the halo effect that vehicles such as the Dodge Demon can deliver.
The Dodge Challenger is still riding on the same LC platform (a variant of the near-20-year-old LX platform) that it debuted with back in 2008. In comparison, the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro launched in 2015, while the newest Ford Mustang hit the streets the year prior in 2014 with a new platform. What FCA has managed to sustain over time with minimal platform investment is sure to be a case study for years to come. Or perhaps, it’s time itself that has proven Dodge right all along.
