Luxury and sport sedan shoppers with safety concerns can take solace in Alfa Romeo. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia a Top Safety Pick+ after its extensive crash testing.
It’s no easy task to earn the “Top Safety Pick+” accolade. Vehicles must score a “Good” rating in five IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, but they must also perform well in IIHS’ automatic emergency braking (AEB) system and headlight evaluations. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia earned the highest ratings in all five crashworthiness tests, plus the headlight evaluation, and a “Superior” rating in the automatic emergency braking evaluation.
It’s important to note, this accolade only applies to the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia when a buyer equips the car with Forward Collision Warning-Plus, which is a $500 option, and bi-xenon projector headlamps featuring adaptive forward lighting and auto-leveling.
Still, even without the active safety equipment, the passive safety features found in the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia are nothing to brush off.
“The Giulia represents the height of Alfa Romeo engineering and technology so no effort was spared when it came to the vehicle’s performance and safety features,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Alfa Romeo. “We’re honored to receive this award from IIHS as it shows our commitment to creating state-of-the-art vehicles.”
