It turns out the Ferrari Portofino name has less to do with the village in Italy and more to do with rights owned by FCA. You see, back in 1987, the Lamborghini Portofino concept was designed and created under Chrysler, and revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Chrysler group has since retained rights to the name, and seems to have transferred them to Ferrari.
Interestingly enough, there was also a Fiat Portofino concept car built by Vernagallo-Holiday and Salt in 2008, which was poised to be an open beach cruiser.
And while we can debate whether or not the ‘Ferrari Portofino’ is a good name, we can say with absolute certainty that this is one sensational looking vehicle.
