After a series of ups and downs, it seems a return to NASCAR may still be a possible venture for Dodge. We think the only thing that’s certain for now is that no one really knows if, when, or how the automaker will make the move.
Back in December of 2016 we heard Dodge was considering a return to NASCAR after The Daytona Beach News Journal reported on a meeting between FCA CEO and Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne and NASCAR CEO Bill France. Nothing was really set in stone, but at least we knew Marchionne wanted the brand to re-enter the scene.
A few weeks ago we came across a report that indicated a return to NASCAR would be too costly for Dodge, but on August 13th Kick in the Tires published an article in which it claims to have interviewed an inside source. This source said the story of the return being too much of a financial burden was “100 percent false.”
The source also went on to say, “This isn’t the type of decision you make lightly as a company but 2019 would be, by far, the earliest for Dodge. If you look around the garage, there are still people wearing Dodge paraphernalia. You see Ram pickups and Dodge cars in the parking lot. There is still a large fan base here.”
So, Dodge fans, don’t give up hope just yet. If you believe this rumor.
