The Farnbacher brothers and company recently returned to the Nürburgring for another crack at completing a lap within 6 minutes. The crowd-funded effort has come a long way, and substantial improvements have been made to the pair of white Dodge Viper ACRs that have been chosen to complete the mission.
This time around, Mario Farnbacher was the brother who set the new record, besting his brother’s previous record by two-tenths of a second at 7:03.25. Despite the improvements made to the vehicle setups, severe heat impeded any progress the group might’ve made if the weather were more compliant.
Unfortunately the heat took its toll on the Kuhmo tires, and with track temperatures exceeding 110 degrees it took just 2 hours for both cars to burn through 2 sets of rubber.
“We’re not done yet,” confirms Bernie Katz, co-founder of Viper Exchange. “The sweet spot in the weather is out there, and we have a small opportunity in the schedule next week to try and find it. The car has a six-minute fifty-something in there, and we’re still trying to find it.”
Wise folk always remind us to make big achievements in baby steps. To us, this is just one of those baby steps. Hopefully the crew can hit their mark in the Viper ACR during the next trip to the ‘Ring.
