The Maserati Ghibli arrived on the scene just at the market began its unquenchable thirst for crossover vehicles. Thus, it left the Maserati Ghibli as a bit of an underdog in the luxury sport sedan segment.
With the reveal of the 2018 Maserati Ghibli GranLusso and GranSport, the Italian marque hopes to change some of that. Not only does it adopt a new name—it replaces the Luxury and Sport trims—but it receives subtle design tweaks, added technology and additional refinement across the board. The 2018 Maserati Ghibli GranLusso will make its debut at the Chengdu Motorshow in China, on August 25th, where the brand will reveal greater details about the car.
For now, all Maserati says is the Italian sports sedan gets an “important upgrade in terms of design and technological contents.” The tweaked design is also said to improve aerodynamics as well.
From the images, the 2018 Maserati Ghibli GranLusso receives an updated front grille, bumper and splashes of chrome. Additionally, there’s a new body-color diffuser at the rear.
Power ratings and performance specifications should go unchanged; the Ghibli’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 makes 345 horsepower, while the sportier Ghibli S makes 404 hp.
Additionally, Maserati said the 2018 Ghibli will bring active ADAS functionalities to promote self-driving capability. Look for more information on the updated 2018 Maserati Ghibli following its Chinese debut.
