Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recently set a Guinness World Record by teaming up with Esselunga, an Italian supermarket chain, to give away nearly 1,500 Fiat 500 hatchbacks. The giveaway was a way of honoring the 60th anniversary of the store as well as the Fiat 500, which turned 60-years old on July 4.
Officially dubbed the ‘Fiat 500 Essalunga’, the one-off model is based on the 69-horsepower, 1.2-liter variant. This limited edition Fiat 500 features an exclusive Pastel White body paint finish with an Ivory-dressed interior and 14-inch wheels.
There were exactly 1,495 cars built and given away, and in less than two days every single Fiat 500 was picked up by a lucky new owner. At first we didn’t see the connection, but it actually makes perfect sense: a grocery store giving away mini grocery-getters. It’s genius.
