Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling some units of the 2017 Ram 1500 over an issue that could cause the vehicle to leak fuel.
The defect: the fuel tanks in the affected vehicles may have a broken fuel tank control valve which might leak fuel if the vehicle were to become inverted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 301, “Fuel System Integrity.”
The hazards: in the event of a rollover crash, leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
Affected vehicles: certain 2017 Ram 1500.
Number of vehicles affected: 4 (United States figure).
The fix: Ram parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel tanks, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin August 21, 2017.
Owners should: customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this Ram recall should visit recalls.mopar.com and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls as well as customer satisfaction programs.
