There’s no disputing the fact that the Dodge Challenger Hellcat is a powerful machine capable of brutal acceleration, thanks to its 707-horsepower supercharged V8. So when a car of such caliber gets bested by a significantly less powerful car, it gets noticed.
Now, in defense of the Hellcat, the 450-horsepower Ford GT40 is a featherweight compared to Dodge’s fat cat, not to mention it’s much more aerodynamic. This aerodynamic efficiency led to a top speed of 153.47 miles per hour, compared to the Hellcat’s 152.74. The GT40 then went on to hit a high of 155.38 at the strip that day.
Of course, with a top speed of over 200 mph, the Hellcat could come out on top with a long enough runway. And no matter which way you slice it, both cars are respectably fast.
