The Nevada Open Road Challenge is an annual race run on a closed 90-mile stretch of State Route 318 in Nevada. It attracts speed demons in vehicles of all sorts, from purpose-built racecars to tuned up streetcars, as they attempt to achieve a set average speed over the course of the run. Then there’s the ‘Unlimited’ class, which has drivers compete to set the fastest overall time on the course.
Back in 2012, Nevada Open Road competitor entered the Unlimited class in a Dodge Charger NASCAR stock car. The entry-list for the event says it’s a 2006 model year car and the owner appears to have stuck an aftermarket wing on the back, but info on any other upgrades isn’t available. It’s certainly fast – the driver recorded a trap speed of over 248 mph and a 217 mph average speed over the course of the run.
You can see how this high-speed run looked from the spectator’s perspective in the video above. We’ve also thrown in a video below taken by a spectator of the car up close.
