The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is the fastest four-door car to lap the Nurburgring, but if Jaguar gets its way, Alfa will soon be heading back to the drawing board looking for ways to make its new sedan even faster.
Jaguar teased the radical new XE Project 8 this week – an extreme performance interpretation of its XE sedan. Jag’s supercharged 5.0-liter V8 is hiding under the hood, but it’s making a whopping 592 horsepower – 17 more than the F-Type SVR. A front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, wing and a widened front and rear track will help make it handier through the corners and we suspect some lightweight parts, such as a carbon fiber hood and roof, may also be on the table.
This car has all the makings to beat the 505 horsepower Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 7 minute and 32-second Nurburgring lap. That GT3-style aero kit alone is probably enough to make the XE corner as quick as the Giulia and with an extra 100 horsepower on tap, the Alfa doesn’t stand a chance down the long straights of the Nordschleife. Still, Jag is only making 300 XE Projects 8s, but you can walk into an Alfa dealer right now and place an order for the Giulia.
