Fiat Chrysler is in partnership with Samsung to use the company’s various smartwatches, smartphones, eBoards and other technology to help streamline the production process at its Cassino plant in Italy.
Alfa Romeo went through two ‘digitalisation processes’ in order to improve and optimize its vehicle production procedures. The first phase involved the implementation of high-luminosity Samsung monitors and eBoards in various points around the facility, which gives factory workers their production performance at a glance. If an emergency or anomaly occurs, the plant can be made aware of the scenario throug hthe screens.
The second phase of the digitalization project was to implement a range of smartphones and smartwatches across the plant for use by assembly line staff. The watches and phones are integrated with FCA’s MES (Manufacturing Execution System), the IT platform that controls the automaker’s entire production system. The tech is also backed up by Samsung’s ‘Knox’ mobile platform security and business system.
The Cassino plant is responsible for building the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and the Stelvio crossover.
