The Ferrari 488 Spider is a very powerful vehicle – even for a supercar. Ferrari’s mid-engine V8 car now makes 661 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty more than the 570 horsepower and 398 lb-ft the 458 Italia it replaced produces. That’s the type of power that can be a bit hard to handle at times, something the driver of a 488 in West Yorkshire, UK learned recently.
According to The Daily Mail, a Ferrari 488 Spider was found abandoned in a field after its driver had seemingly lost control of the supercar and spun it into a grassy field. The car went through some hedges and a fence before coming to a stop, which ripped the front right quarter-panel off and caused extensive damage to the front bumper.
This accident as DUI written all over it. A high-priced vehicle that was crashed and abandoned in the middle of the night for seemingly no reason? We’re willing to wager the driver was under the influence in some fashion. Perhaps they returned to fetch their six-figure supercar after having sobered up a little – but it seems doubtful the Yorkshire police would let them off scot free.
