The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is arriving in dealerships after a long wait and Fiat Chrysler has marked the highly anticipated launch with a new 60-second spot entitled ‘Flying Pigs’.
The ‘Flying pigs’ ad humorously uses the common adynaton to advertise the Pacifica Hybrid’s electric-mode fuel economy, which is equivalent to 84 miles per gallon. The joke being, of course, that you’d only see an efficient, hybrid minivan with 84 MPGe “when pigs can fly.”
“If I had told you even two years ago that the Chrysler brand would transform the minivan segment with the industry’s first hybrid minivan, and that it would achieve 84 MPGe, with class-leading features and innovations, including hybrid-exclusive technology features, including a smartphone app, deliver relevant vehicle information, such as charge status and scheduling, charging station locations and an ‘efficiency coach’ for more efficient driving, many consumers would have said they’ll believe it ‘when pigs fly’,” said FCA’s passenger car brand boss Tim Kuniskis.
The 60-second video is shot from the perspective of a young boy and his sister sitting in the rear passenger seats of the Pacifica Hybrid. As the parents are wowed the by the Pacifica’s standard features, the children gaze into the sky and see flying pigs, hell “freezing over” and a blue moon. Chrysler says the moral of the story is that “he all-new Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid defies all conventional thinking.”
