The Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan received a coveted ‘Game Changer’ award from the United Kingdom’s Autocar magazine at the 2017 Autocar Awards over the weekend.
The ‘Game Changer’ award is another in a long list of accolades racked up by the Giulia sedan. The publication says the designation is typically handed down to cars that “bring new, higher standards to their classes, or because they defy conventions to benefit buyers.”
So why was the Giulia deemed a ‘Game Changer’? Autocar says the vehicle is a “striking entrant into a class usually defined by an understated brand of superiority.” In other words, the luxury compact arena is typically dominated by vehicles that are considered good due to the social status afforded by their badges. The Alfa is just downright good, however. No badge snobbery at play here.
“This is not only the most competitive Alfa Romeo saloon since the last Giulia was launched more than half a century ago but, crucially for anyone with Alfisti blood lurking in their veins, it’s the most likeable, too,” said Autocar editor Mark Tisshaw. “With its incredible performance and exciting handling, the Giulia is everything you’d want an Alfa Romeo to be.”
In addition to the ‘Game Changer’ award, the Giulia has also been named Popular Mechanics’ magazine’s favorite ‘Super Sedan’ in Quadrifoglio form, a ‘Future Collectible’ by Hagerty and Top Gear Magazine’s ‘Car of the Year’, among many others.
