The updated 2018 Fiat 500L, which Fiat Chrysler says is comprised of more than ’40 percent new’ parts, has been shown ahead of its arrival at dealers later this year.
The new 500L is available in three bodystyles: Urban, Cross and Wagon. The ‘Urban’ bodystyle represents a typical 500L, while the ‘Cross’ takes an off-road route with plastic body cladding, 25mm more ground clearance, model specific front and rear bumpers and front and rear skid plates. The 500L Wagon is 4.38 meters long (versus 4.24 and 4.28 for Urban and Cross versions, respectively) and features additional boot space and available third-row of seating – the latter of which turns it into the shortest wheelbase seven-seater on the market.
Other styling changes made to the people mover including new front fascia with a redesigned lower mesh grille, circular LED daytime running lights (which represent the two zeroes on ‘500), and a new rear fascia with relocated fog/reversing lights and additional stylized chrome elements. Fiat says the 2018 500L will be available in ‘no less than 37 colour combinations’ with 11 available body colors and four available roof colors.
A redesigned cabin joins the updated exterior. A restyled and more modern dashboard is present along with new gauges, a new steering wheel and a new, relocated gear lever. Fiat’s seven-inch UConnect infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is also now available. Other functions of the infotainment screen include hands-free Bluetooth interface, audio streaming, a text reader and voice recognition, AUX and USB ports with iPod integration, and a TomTom 3D built-in navigation system.
The powertrain options remain mostly the same, with the gas engines consisting of a 95 horsepower 1.4-liter, a 120 horsepower 1.4-liter and a 105 horsepower 0.9-liter turbo. A bi-fuel 1.4-liter and LPG 1.4-liter are also offered (both with 120 horsepower) and are joined by an 85 horsepower bi-fuel 0.9-liter. The diesel range is comprised of a 95 horsepower 1.3-liter and 120 horsepower 1.6-liter. All of the engines are Euro 6 emissions compliant.
Pricing for the 2018 Fiat 500L has yet to be announced. Available options and engines may vary based on the local market, Fiat says.
