Three people were killed and another 10 were injured after an accident at a car auction in Billerica, Massachusetts, local ABC affiliate WCVB reports.
According to authorities, a Lynnway Auto Auction auction worker was moving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the vehicle accelerated and ran into a crowd of people. A man and two women were killed and 10 were taken to hospital, two of which are in life threatening condition. The remaining eight are in serious condition.
“I heard a screeching of tires, and, I believe, a Jeep Cherokee went flying by me,” auction worker Wood Tuttle said. “In avoiding the cars, whoever was driving this vehicle hit several people.”
The auction worker driving the vehicle was a man in his 70s. The cause of the accident has yet to be confirmed, but it’s believed he may have confused the accelerator pedal with the brake. In a statement, police said “there is no evidence or information to suggest the incident was caused by an intentional or terrorist act.”
