Fiat Chrysler is preparing to roll out an updated version of the current Ram 1500 for the 2019 model year. Prototypes signalling the revised pickup’s arrival have been spotted on a handful of occasions, however a 2019 Ram 1500 that was recently spied by photographers has the internet’s truck community talking.
The test mule appears to be for the 2019 Ram 1500 Quad Cab. Engineers appear to have gone to great lengths to conceal the truck’s tailgate, applying a camouflage that makes it impossible to see just what’s underneath. This has led to speculation that Ram is developing a trick ‘barn door’ style tailgate that splits to open horizontally but can also be dropped down like a standard tailgate.
The 2019 update for the Ram is also expected to introduce changes elsewhere. The interior should get a thorough redesign and become a bit more luxurious, while the extra large ‘Meg Cab’ bodystyle is also rumored to return. A more powerful version of the Cummins inline-six could be in store for Ram Heavy Duty variants as well – helping it to better compete with the latest Ford Super Duty and Chevrolet Silverado HD.
