The Texas Auto Writers Association has crowned the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid its ‘Family Car Of Texas’ for 2017 after driving and judging the vehicle at its recent Texas Auto Roundup drive event.
The ‘Family Car of Texas’ award is considered to be one of TAWA’s highest honors and was one of several awards handed down to Fiat Chrysler vehicles by the association. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio took home three awards at the Texas Auto Roundup, while the 2017 Jeep Compass was named the Activity Vehicle of Texas and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT was named the Performance Utility Vehicle of Texas.
“Several vehicles from FCA US were top performers at the Roundup this year,” said TAWA president Nic Phillips. “The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan was the clear leader for one of our top awards, the Family Car of Texas. As the industry’s first electrified hybrid minivan, Chrysler has taken not only this family vehicle but the entire plug-in electric class to a whole new level. The Pacifica is loaded with high-tech features that make it easy to connect, charge and maximize the efficiency of the vehicle, not to mention offering the safety features and technology that every family deserves.”
In addition to ‘Family Car of Texas’, the association also named the Pacific Hybrid the Minivan of Texas and the Green Vehicle of Texas and bestowed its hybrid powertrain with its ‘Best New Feature’ award. The Pacifica Hybrid’s powertrain consists of a 3.6-liter Atkinson cycle V6 engine mated to an electronically variable transmission with a small electric motor. The vehicle can travel up to 33-miles under electric power only before switching over to hybrid mode.
