The Dodge Challenger Hellcat is the most powerful domestic muscle car with its 707 horsepower 6.2-liter HEMI V8, but it’s slightly bogged down by its weight relative to the smaller and and lighter Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang.
The Hellcat’s nearest competitor in regards to power is the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which produces 650 horsepower from its 6.2-liter supercharged small block V8. The Camaro might be down on power to the Hellcat, but like we said, it’s much lighter, leaving the two fairly even in regards to real-world, straight line speed.
Texas-based tuner Hennessey Performance Engineering recently rounded up a stock Challenger Hellcat and a stock Camaro ZL1 for a drag race to see which of the supercharger muscle cars is faster. They were sure to get automatic examples of both for the sake of parity and left both in automatic mode, minimizing the driver’s effect on the outcome as much as possible.
Check out the video above to see which of these two American-bred performance machines takes the win.
