Pricing for the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has yet to be announced, but Fiat Chrysler already has a plan to prevent its dealers from ordering up all 3,300 examples of the muscle car and slapping huge price tags on them.
The Demon is sold with a metal interior plaque that will be customized with the original owner’s name. The plaques will only be engraved from the factory and only for the original buyer. Head of passenger car brands at FCA, Tim Kuniskis, hopes customers will want their name on their car, which may in turn prevent dealers from buying up the cars and attempting to resell them for way above the original MSRP.
If a dealer orders a Demon without an actual customer having requested it, the interior plaque will be blank. FCA is hoping the customers line up out the door for the Demon, though, and all the cars will go to actual buyers with their names on the interior plaque. If it all goes to plan, dealers won’t have any cars to resell above MSRP.
Here’s to hoping the MSRP isn’t too high, Mopar fans.
