Fiat Chrysler made headlines this week with the debut of the 808 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. However Texas-based tuning firm Hennessey Performance Engineering is attempting to steal a bit of Dodge’s thunder with their 1000 plus horsepower Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
Hennessey’s HPE1000 upgrade kit for the Charger Hellcat replaces the factory 2.3-liter supercharger with a massive 4.5-liter unit producing 14 psi of boost. Also contributing to the massive power gains, which are dyno-certified at 1,012 horsepower and 969 lb-ft of torque, is a new high flow induction system, high flow fuel injectors, an upgraded fuel pump and stainless steel long tube headers.
The performance effects these upgrades have are profound, of course. With drag slicks installed and on a well-prepped drag strip, the Charger HPE1000 will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds at 141 mph. It might not be as fast as the Demon, but that’s just about as quick as you can get a road-legal sedan with air-conditioning, leather seats and an audio system to go.
