The latest instalment in the wildly popular Fast and The Furious franchise, The Fate of the Furious, has surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the largest ever opening weekend for a movie at $532.5 million worldwide.
The Fate of the Furious starred multiple Dodge and Fiat Chrysler vehicles including the new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, which had a starring the role in the film. Ironically, the majority of movie goers that went to see Fate of the Furious won’t be able to buy the Demon. In addition to the largest launch ever, it also set the record for the largest international launch, with $432.3 million of its revenue coming from foreign markets. It also earned another $192.1 million in China – the biggest three-day debut for a Hollywood title in the country.
The Fate of The Furious, which opened on April 12th, 2017, follows the usual Fast and Furious suspects (Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Dwayne Johnson and Michelle Rodriguez) on a mission as Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Torretto, is turned to a life of crime by Charlize Theron’s character, Cipher.
