Maserati is recalling 3,300 Levante crossovers in the United States due to a software issue.
The defect: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affected Levantes “were manufactured with an engine software issue,” that may shift the transmission into neutral or shutdown the engine altogether when the vehicle is creeping at speeds of around 2 miles per hour. In stop-and-go traffic, this can prove to be especially problematic.
The hazards: If the vehicle were to shut down entirely in stop-and-go traffic, it’s possible that a collision could occur with a surrounding vehicle.
Affected Vehicles: 2017 model year Levantes produced between July 1, 2016 and December 13, 2016.
Number of vehicles affected: 3,299
Owners should: Customers looking to find out if their vehicle is included in this recall can visit this website and input their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open recalls. If their vehicle is one of the 3,300 affected, it should be taken to a Maserati dealer ASAP.
