Sebastian Vettel has proclaimed the new Ferrari SF70H F1 car is a large step forward from the outgoing SF16-T.
The SF70H, which Ferrari debuted in Friday at its Fiorano test track in Maranello before sending it on a hauler to Spain, is much longer and wider than the SF16-T as per the series’ new regulations. The revised rules give the cars more aerodynamic and mechanical grip and also more power, shrinking lap times considerably over last year even on the first day of the test.
“You can see it’s a step forward. You can feel it’s a step forward,” Vettel said following the first day of testing at Fiorano. “It’s fun to drive. The car is quite big. It looks quite strong from the outside, but also the first impression is the right one.”
“The conditions are not how they’re gonna be in Australia but today we didn’t have any problems. So it was a good day and a good start.”
The SF70H returned to the track this morning for the first of several days of pre-season testing at Barcelona. Ferrari proved to be the second fastest team in testing behind the Mercedes-AMG squad and also ran a considerable amount of laps at 128. The car seemed relatively quick and reliable compared to the Red Bull, which stopped on track at one point and the McLaren, which completed just 29 laps before breaking down.
