The United Kingdom has received a rear-wheel drive version of the AWD Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce that is sold in European markets.
The Giulia Veloce bridges the gap between the entry-level Giulia and the high-performance 505 horsepower Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde with a 280 horsepower version of Alfa’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, standard Q4 all-wheel drive and sporty exterior appointments. Alfa’s Q4 all-wheel drive system is not compatible with right-hand drive Giulias, so many thought was the UK was going to miss out on the mild-performance Veloce, but thankfully it has simply received a RWD version.
The arrival of the Veloce in the UK will be welcomed by many Alfisti in the region. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder found in the standard Giulia in the UK produces a paltry 210 horsepower, whereas in the U.S. it pushes 280 horsepower. Without the Veloce, the only way for UK Alfa buyers to get into a Giulia that wasn’t entirely sluggish would be to buy the Giulia QV. Additionally, UK buyers will liekly be happier to receive the RWD Veloce over the heavier AWD version.
Pricing for the Giulia Veloce starts at £37,880 in the UK – £23,210 less than the QV. Those buyers more serious about performance may opt for a£1,950 Performance Package, which adds aluminum paddle shifters, a limited slip differential and the QV’s active suspension. As with other UK-spec Giulias, an eight-speed automatic is the only transmission option.
