Former head of quality at Fiat Chrysler Doug Betts has been hired to head up J.D. Power and Associate’s automotive division, Automotive News reports.
Betts left FCA in 2014 and prior to working with the automaker had held positions with Nissan and Toyota. He held an unspecified role with Apple Inc. following his departure from FCA, with J.D. Power telling AN he “helped lead the introduction of Apple’s latest product innovations,” while working there.
“Doug is an industry leader with a deep understanding of quality and design issues who also has first-hand experience with the disruptive forces reshaping the automotive industry,” said J.D. Power CEO Finbarr O’Neill. “This is the most important role we have in our automotive division, and with Doug’s leadership we can provide our clients with the knowledge and advice they need to navigate the challenges ahead.”
Betts was first hired by FCA in 2007 and in 2009 was tasked with improving the automaker’s lagging quality control. He initially experienced success in improving the quality of the brand’s vehicles but was let go in 2014 after FCA performed poorly in Consumer Reports’ quality survey. Despite making employment changes within its quality sector, FCA again performed poorly in this year’s Consumer Reports quality survey.
