The compact luxury performance car segment is competitive and crowded. It was long dominated by the BMW M3, but in this most recent F90 generation, the M3 has lost some of its segment share to its rivals, the Mercedes-AMG C63 and Cadillac ATS-V. The segment just got a bit more packed with the arrival of the 505 horsepower Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde, so naturally, Motor Trend set out to see which of the four offerings is best.
The four cars follow a similar formula but their respective manufacturers have arrived at different results with each. The Mercedes-AMG is the heaviest of the lot with its V8 engine and additional interior luxuries, whilst the ATS-V is the lightest and thus the least comfortable and most athletic. The M3 and QV find themselves in the middle of the luxury-performance gradient and not coincidentally, its these two cars that are deemed the strongest of the four and hand-picked for a head-to-head showdown.
We don’t want to ruin the result, so be sure to check out this four-way test of some of the hottest cars on sale today embedded above.
