The latest teaser for the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon reveals the most surprising fact about the muscle car yet: it will come with a special ‘Demon Crate’ featuring 18 components that enable it to easily flip from a drag strip setup to a street setup.
“The Challenger SRT Demon provides a platform from which each customer can design their own ultimate “Street/Strip” muscle car,” the automaker said in a statement. “It’s not intended for a road course; rather, each customer can decide at the time of order, or once they own the car, or even on a moment’s notice that they want their car to favor street performance, drag strip performance or something in between.”
“The key is building in the capability and flexibility and then giving the customer access to the right gear for the job.”
The teaser video, embedded above, shows an anonymous figure opening up a crate and removing an impact drill, ratchet and jack and also shows a quick glimpse of some skinny front drag tires. We’re guessing the Demon will give owners the option to personally switch to skinny front tires and also remove the front passenger seat and install other drag-racing oriented parts when at the strip. With the crate, which looks to be slim enough to fit in the trunk of the Challenger, they’ll be able easily swap back to a street setup for the drive home.
Dodge says the crate includes:
- Direct Connection Demon Performance Parts
- Demon-branded track tools
- Matching Demon spare wheels
- Demon Track Pack System
This latest release from Dodge adds to the list of information we already have on the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon. We know the muscle car will be based on the 707 horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat and will feature widebody fenders and 18×11 lightweight wheels at all four corners wrapped in Nitto drag radial tires. It will also be lighter than the Hellcat by a rumored 200 lbs, with Dodge stripping it of a rear seat, insulation, floor mats and a spare tire. We imagine it will drop info on the Demon’s HEMI V8 last. After all, we know that’s what you’re all waiting for.
The 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon SRT will debut at the 2017 New York International Auto Show in early April. In the meantime, check out the teaser here and check back to www.ifyouknowyouknow.com every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. for more new Demon info.
