The No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTE of Risi Competizione has finished third in GTLM in the 2017 24 Hours of Daytona.
The lone GTLM Ferrari entry was driven to the podium finish by Giancarlo Fisichella, Toni Vilander and James Calado. The No. 66 Ford GT claimed the GTLM win, with the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR taking second place.
Risi, a Houston, Texas based outfit, led the GTLM pack for several laps and was a contender for the win right up until the finish. Calado crossed the finish line three seconds behind the GTLM leader and just 0.91 seconds behind the No. 911 Porsche.
Calado may have held onto the lead had Ford’s Dirk Mueller not forced his way past the Ferrari at Turn 1 late in the race and made contact with the Ferrari. The manoeuvre also allowed the Porsche of Pilet to easily pass Calado, forcing the British driver to play try and catch-up for race’s remainder.
In GTD, neither the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari nor the No. 51 Spirit of Race Ferrari made it to the finish. The No. 62 car, driven by Sam Bird, Alessandro Balzan, Christina Nielsen and Matteo Cressoni, was poised for a class win before the an engine problem forced the car to a halt. The No. 51 entry was forced out of the race much earlier for a technical problem as well.
