Mopar’s year=long celebrations marking its 80th anniversary are set to commence with a special display at the upcoming 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Mopar, a contraction of the words “Motor Parts” was born on August 1st, 1937 when it introduced a line of antifreeze products. Over the years it has grown to encompass all parts and service for Fiat Chrysler vehicles and today enjoys strong brand recognition due to its historic significance.
“The Mopar brand holds an unparalleled place in the automotive world, possessing name recognition, scope of service and passionate enthusiasts unmatched by any other service and parts organization in the industry,” Mopar boss Pietro Gorlier said in a statement. “From humble beginnings as a simple name for antifreeze products, now the Mopar brand reaches customers in over 150 markets offering parts, service and innovative care throughout the whole customer journey.”
Fiat Chrysler says its Mopar parts and service subsidiary has “blazed a trail,” in the last decade with a number of industry firsts including the first smartphone vehicle-information apps, in-vehicle wireless charging and factory-connected tablet technology for service lanes. It has also introduced a number of Mopar limited edition vehicles including the 2010 Dodge Challenger and 2011 Dodge Charger Mopar Editions and the 2016 Ram Rebel Mopar Edition. At the 2016 SEMA show, Mopar began debuted its new 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter HEMI V8 crate engines and install kits.
Mopar says its year-long 80th anniversary celebrations will include the introduction of special-edition vehicles, new merchandise and revised customer service and product initiatives, among much more.
