It’s no secret that Fiat Chrysler has been looking at offering a hybrid powertrain in its Ram 1500 pickup truck, however some of the specifics on the hybrid truck have now been all but confirmed thanks to spy photographs obtained by Trucks.com.
The photos show a four-cylinder engine sitting beneath the engine of a Ram 1500 prototype. There’s no evidence pointing to the presence of an electric powertrain, but it’s reasonable to assume that something similar to the Pacifica’s 16 kWh hybrid system will help the four-cylinder along in moving the half-ton rig.
That being said, the four-cylinder engine won’t be down on power. It’s likely FCA will employ its new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder ‘Hurricane’ engine in the Ram 1500 hybrid, which may produce 300 horsepower or more. The engine will also feature a twin-scroll turbocharger, direct injection, an integrated water and air charge cooler and exhaust gas recirculation.
