The Jeep Wrangler is one of the few vehicles on sale today without a true competitor. If you want a large SUV with live axles, four-wheel drive and a removable roof, you’ll end up in a Wrangler, however a rival to the venerable Jeep off-roader may now be on the horizon.
At the recent North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford announced it will bring a new Bronco SUV to market by 2020. As reported by our sister site Ford Authority, the new Bronco will have an ‘Air Roof’ that will consist of as many as six glass panels that can be removed and stored in the vehicle. Sounds a lot like the multi-paned roof to appear on the next-generation Jeep Wrangler JL, in our opinion.
The Bronco’s debut is still a long time away, so it’s too early to speculate as to what other Wrangler-rivaling features it might have. We do know one advantage the Wrangler will have over the Bronco, however: bodystyle variety. The Jeep Wrangler JL will be available in two- and four-door configurations and will eventually be offered as a pickup truck. The Bronco, on the other hand, will be offered in four-door flavor only.
