It seems the only way to get North Americans to buy hatchback vehicles at the same rate as the rest of the world is to raise them up a couple of inches and call them crossovers. If you squint, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio Verde is essentially a raised up 505 horsepower Alfa Romeo hatchback, which makes it the perfect starting point for the brand to build the next-generation Giulietta hatchback on.
Digital renderings artist Theophilus Chin agrees with us that the Stelvio is essentially a slightly larger and taller Giulietta. That thought inspired him digitally lower the Stelvio by a few inches and shorten its greenhouse section and the result, in our opinion, is very close to what a next-generation Giulietta Quadrifolgio Verde might look like if Alfa were to debut such a vehicle tomorrow.
Alfa Romeo has already considered building the next-gen Giulietta on the rear-wheel drive Giorgio platform that underpins both the Stelvio and Giulia, but has reservations about the cost of developing such a vehicle and the demand for a rear-wheel drive compact car. The rear-drive Giulietta may see the light of day eventually but for now, we’ll just have to enjoy these renderings.
