Last week it was revealed that Fiat Chyrsler had elected to make its next big vehicle debut at CES 2017 rather than the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The electronics convention has become increasingly important for automakers in recent years, with automotive tech capturing widespread attention at this year’s edition of the show.
Little is known about the Pacifica EV, however it’s safe to assume it will share some of its powertrain components with the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid. The hybrid minivan, which is FCA’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle, has a hybrid system made up of an electric motor housed within the EVT transmission along with a 16 kWh battery pack providing up to 33 miles of electric range.
In addition to the Pacifica EV, FCA is also said to be working on an all-electric version of the Maserati Alfieri sportscar and a hybrid version of the newly introduced Maserati Levante SUV. Rumors indicate the Levante hybrid will feature a version of the Pacifica Hybrid’s 16 kWh hybrid system, which would likely be paired with the automaker’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gas engine.
