The creator’s of Pixar’s Cars were originally going to model the film’s protagonist, Lightning McQueen, after a Chevrolet Corvette, but eventually decided to mix their favorite parts of famous American cars together to creative something everyone would appreciate.
Bob Pauley, one of the two production designers that worked on the film, said he and his team “took the best of our favourite things, from GT40s to Chargers,” to style McQueen in a recognizable yet generic way. Car fans young and old have watched the all-American McQueen run away with wins in the first two films, but in the recent trailer for Cars 3, it appears McQueen will take a career-ending blow.
The trailer, released by Pixar earlier this week, shows a modern-looking and electric-sounding car racing through the Piston Cup field as McQueen’s tires blows, sending him into a roll. Ominous text then flashes on the screen reading “From this moment, everything will change.” We doubt Pixar is going to kill McQueen off, so we’re going to guess the Cars mainstay will spend some of the movie recovering from the wreck and trying to get back up to speed with the new rookies in the series.
