The Fiat Tipo with its standard safety equipment has received a three-star overall safety rating from the Euro NCAP.
The European safety watchdog evaluated the Tipo under its dual rating system, which allows for two ratings to be given to a car. One of the ratings is for the car with standard safety equipment, while the second indicates the safety of the car when fitted with optional safety equipment.
When fitted with Fiat’s “Pack Safety” safety package, which includes a Forward Collision Warning system with low- and high-speed Auto-Brake, the Tipo receives a four-star safety rating.
“The Tipo is marketed as a functional car which maximizes value for money,” the NCAP said in a statement. “However, to maximise safety, and to bring the car up to the protection levels offered by its biggest rivals in this segment, consumers should not pass over the safety pack.”
