If you’re a car enthusiast, chances are you’ve seen and heard all about General Motors LS V8 swaps. The compact nature of the eight-cylinder engine, along with its simple design, wide spread availability, low cost and good power make it just about the perfect engine to swap into your track-day car, drift car or drag car.
LS engines have been dropped into everything from Ferraris to Ford Mustangs, but YouTube’s 1320 Video recently came across a rather unusual LS drag car build during Drag Week in Hebron, Ohio: a Dodge Challenger with a turbocharged LSX 427 V8 under its long, wide hood.
It’s not clear how much power the LSX V8 and accompanying 106mm turbocharger are putting to the ground, however it’s safe to say this is one of the fastest Challengers around. With a three-speed automatic transmission and drag slicks, the 4,000 lb pony car runs 8-second passes with ease. That LS swap might be Mopar sacrilege, but we’ll be damned if it doesn’t get the job done.
